The New Brighton Rugby Academy was re-established in 2013 to provide a pathway for promising rugby players (mostly school leavers) to help secure and continue the strength of New Brighton rugby. Our recent success across all grades prove that our systems are currently working while always looking to be innovative. We can provide the resources to be a great option for a young player who may be looking for a club after their High School Rugby or any player wanting to join one of Canterbury`s top performing clubs. Post the 2016 club season 5 recent New Brighton Academy players played for either Canterbury Mitre 10 cup or Canterbury B. Those players were Billy Harmon and Olly Jager (Canterbury). Reuben Spicer, Carisbrooke Toomalatai and Henare Faithful played for Canterbury B.

  Some of the things we provide include,

1.  Great team culture,  Enjoy rugby on and off the field. Good crowds at the club each Saturday night.
2.  Great Coaches. Team coaches and resource Coaches of top quality and ensuring they continue to up skill. Including Mike Cron and Dave Hewett.
3.  Gym memberships and training support.
4.  Facilities. We have 5 grounds with a sand base with plenty of room for training. The club rooms is good with a large room to train inside on the very wet nights. 
5.  The club is in a strong position looking to the future with a very strong results in our 5 men's teams. 
6,Free subs for our Prem Colts players along with free apparel including hoodie and a Kooga warm up top.

Scott Pawson.
Div 1 Head Coach. IRB level 3 coach. Won the div 1 championship with New Brighton in 2013.Won the Div 2 comp with New Brighton in 2012.Scott played Cricket for Canterbury and has also coached East Shirley Cricket club to win the National one day comp in 2012.Has been part of a div 1 coaching group who has made the top four every year every year he has coached (4 years) including 2 grand final appearances, first and second round trophies.
Roddy Butt.
RDO. Coached div 1 for Christchurch 2002,MLU 2006-07. Canterbury Country Senior Coach 2006-07.Won Craw shield v town 2007. 3 years professional coach in Japan 2002-05.Coached Nagasaki at World Youth tournament in 2003. Canterbury Metro Colts coach 2008-09.Canterbury Metro under 20s coach 2008 unbeaten season. IRB level 3 coach (Advanced).Canterbury B coach in 2010.Help create a winning environment at New Brighton Rugby Club for the past 8 years. 

Marcel Cummings-Toone
Marcel has had a wonderful professional rugby playing career and is now getting his teeth into coaching as one of our resource coaches and he captained the div 1 side in 2015. Marcel has played ITM Cup for Canterbury, Waikato and BOP.He was also part of the Super Rugby winning Chiefs for two seasons. Marcel also played in the front row for the Junior All Blacks.

Alisi Tupuailei.

Alisi played for Canterbury on the wing before departing for Japan to continue his professional rugby career. He spent 7 years in Japan and had 3 years playing for the Japanese National team including the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand in the mid field. Alisi returned home in 2014 wanting to still put on the New Brighton jersey while giving back to his club with his extensive knowledge. Alisi is now part of the div 1 coaching group and in 2016 coached the backs for the Canterbury Metro under 18s development team.  

We use CRFU and NZRFU resource coaches with our academy along with some boxing class/sessions during the summer months.
